Gay clubs state college pa

Late morning on a weekday is an odd time to be walking into my favorite bar in State College. Drawing inspiration from some of their favorite bars, artists and restaurants, Braun and Sorg leaned on each other throughout the project. Braun brought her love of art and her knowledge of the customers and culture.

And Sorg listened, while also bringing his love of classic cocktails, books and lighting. Braun is delighting in the new cocktail menu, which she admits she thought would be too confining at first. The menu highlights gins and mezcals; an intentional choice to put the emphasis on more esoteric spirits.

There is a mysterious strip of quirky Mona Lisa wallpaper that was discovered during the renovations behind the bar that has been left intact above the lounge area booth. By the bathrooms, customers can take books from a Little Free Library, brimming with gay literature, anti-racist lit and everything in between. The framed works on the wall by artist Kadir Nelson, two of which are The New Yorker covers, evoke cheers from Braun when someone recognizes the artist.

Now, a select menu of whimsical small plates spanning global cuisine changes often and is displayed on butcher board paper on the wall — no printed menu. Special capped light bulbs illuminate the Moroccan zellige tiles behind the bar.

The bar itself was in good shape structurally, but needed a facelift. For Braun, that bar was the Brickhouse that closed in For Sorg, this similar dynamic is at the heart of his bar in Key West, The Green Parrot he is also part-ownerwhere you can belly up next to a contractor on one side and a drag queen on the other, one beautifully human family.
